  Why Choose Canterbury?

Canterbury English aims to give its TESL program participants more than just a certificate of course completion. Instead, Canterbury emphasizes a “LEARN BY DOING” and “GET PAID FOR DOING” philosophy that allows both program participants and graduates to create a memorable experience for themselves during and after their time with Canterbury.

CANTERBURY TESL PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

Group TEFLCanterbury English offers several unique opportunities to its TESL program participants. Of especial note is the fact that Canterbury pays its students for teaching the forty practice hours required to complete the course. This is the most number of paid practice teaching hours out of any TESL program, and one would be hard pressed to find a program that even comes close to this number of hours.

Moreover, the demand for English teachers is continually increasing throughout the world. With this increase in demand is a tailoring of specifications, such as English geared towards certain age groups or professions. Through Canterbury’s TESL course, students learn about ESL courses that are geared towards business professionals and courses that focus on teaching to children. The diversity of these classes allows participants to see how important ESL is today international affairs and people of the world in general.

AFTER CANTERBURY

Just as Canterbury ensures that all TESL program participants will have a job while they are taking the course, Canterbury also promises all program graduates a summer and/or school year job. Often times people do not recognize the magnanimity of this offer, so consider this: despite what people may tell you, finding a job in Spain is difficult for anyone, and even more difficult for foreigners. The Canterbury staff recognizes that inability to find a job may hinder an individual’s experience and thus guarantees at least fifteen hours of teaching a week for graduates.

Should fifteen hours seem like too little for some future teachers, Canterbury can also guide graduates through the job search process at other schools and provide them with self-marketing and resume building skills that give them an undeniable advantage over their peers.

Currently, the full market pay rate for ESL teachers in Madrid falls anywhere from 11-18 euros an hour, while one on one classes range from 10-20 euros an hour. The exact pay rate for teaching depends on a number of variables including teacher experience, the class module (general, business, and children) and the class size.

Regardless of an individual’s goals or plans for after completion of the Canterbury TESL program, all Canterbury English staff members strive to encourage and improve current and former students´ experiences in teaching English throughout the world.
